As an extension of our physician answering service, our medical triage center assists
patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with their immediate health concerns, in concert with their PCP or
Specialist's requests. This process is guided and tracked by industry-leading computerized algorithms, and
all calls are digitally recorded. Upon subscribing to the MedDial service, each physician's office is assigned a unique, toll-free number. For service coverage, the office phone is forwarded to the toll-free number. All incoming office calls are then seamlessly forwarded to the answering service. The system recognizes the physician's number and instantly displays that physician's information on the communication specialist's terminal. This information includes the physician's personal greeting, other physician's in the practice, on-call information, office hours, phone numbers, and all special instructions found on the "practice profile form" submitted by the physician.
The answering service representative will forward any health information or symptom based calls to a registered nurse for callback. Non-medical questions will be handled per the practice's instructions. Because we keep the answering service and nurse triage functions separate, you can be assured that all calls are handled in the most economical manner.
The features of our software, communications technology and medical-literate staff are the cornerstone to delivering efficient and personalized service for both the physician and their patients.

The call center has been accredited by URAC for health call center services since 2000. This call center serves the healthcare community coast-to-coast throughout the U.S. and Canada, and by the very nature of its broad marketplace, pays particular attention to cultural diversity concerns. MedDial uses foreign language assistance when necessary. Disaster recovery capability is assured through the use of mirrored technology, redundant relays, frame-relay switching and diesel power back-up. All data is hosted securely by Terremark in Miami, FL.
- The Staff
- Our Registered Nurses have an average of 10 years of clinical experience and undergo an extensive training program before actually taking patient calls. Overseeing our nurses are MedDial's two Medical Directors, Dr. Robert Johnston and Dr. Michael Weaver, both heads of the Emergency Medicine departments at their respective hospitals.
The Protocols
- MedDial employs medical algorithms designed and updated by Dr. Barton Schmitt and Dr. David Thompson. We encourage our participating physicians to review our algorithms. Access to our algorithm base is made available by contacting your MedDial representative.
